Only You Can Start Your Dormant Blog

Only You Can Start Your Dormant Blog

You blogged for a while, enjoyed it with your online community, online friends became your offline friends and suddenly you chose not to blog anymore. Nothing surprising, bloggers do this often. Some get bored; some achieve their purpose and some moved to new horizons. In Vinayas case it was the fulfillment of the purpose. Vinaya as you know is a partner in Lighthouse Insights but apart from that she is a prolific blogger. She started writing for her personal blog initially and after an amazing year she decided to stop it. No doubt it was a quite a popular blog but today her problem is that she wants to start again but she has no idea how to look for her old community. We thought of helping her by giving her some tips by which she can get back some of the members of her old community. Its not an impossible task and its all about connecting, conversing and letting the community know that you are back . It wont happen in a day but we are sure if people with the same problem follow our small tips listed below for a month strictly then theyll definitely succeed.

Start from where you left
Go back to your last post and carry on your new journey from there. Here, we are not talking about the content but to pull your things from where you left. This is a chance to revamp your blog, fix those small things and add some cool necessary free apps. Maybe you can give a fresh look and write about your second innings. Whoever visits should feel that you love your space and respect readers time. Finally before you expect your old community to come back, start posting regularly. Bloggers debate that quality of content is lost with regular posting but we think that once you are in the groove of writing, you will write better. We tried this advice that was given by our influencer, Chris Brogan and its been nearly two months and we are writing a post daily. One can say that we dont have a great community but atleast we are not sitting idle and we are yet to face writers block.

Take a leap back into the past
You are writing regular posts, some new readers are coming to your post but where is your old community? Close your eyes and write down all the names of people who were a part of your community. Once you have the list try to find their blogs and from there you can get details about their presence on social networks. Add them. Suppose if one of your friend who was in your community is on Twitter, then go ahead and connect with him. Greet him the way you would do normally to friends offline. If you dont find their social connections then use Google. you wont be disappointed.

Connect and Converse with your community
Once you have connected with your old community dont wait for discussions to happen. You left them so its your responsibility, to start off keep it simple. Dont push your blog but rather try to regain the old loyalty. Start reading and conversing on the blogs that are still on your blog roll. This would make your community know your visibility and they would be excited to see your comments. So connect with your old community and engage in conversation that could be via comments on their blogs or on social networking sites or even via Skype. Whatever be the medium dont push but be rational.

Share Content of others
Sharing is a virtue that has two benefits, one when you share its also increasing your knowledge, getting you new ideas and secondly you are benefiting others too. So if you find an interesting blog post from your community, share them on your social networking sites. Try to deliver your thoughts about the post too while sharing. Hopefully, the person who is the owner of the content will be interested in knowing about you and some new likeminded people would be coming your way. In simple words, sharing indirectly leads to broadcasting of your content.

Broadcast where it makes sense
You are connecting, conversing but when you are posting new articles on your blog, maximum visiblity is a must. So share your content and make it easy to be accessed. Post your aricles on Indivine that gives you a great promotion platform, share your posts on social media networking sites so that your community is informed about your activities. Broadcasting of your content is not bad if done under permissible limits. Dont spam but share to motivate your community. Nothing is wrong if you connect with your community on individual basis and invite people to read and review it. So share it rationally but dont auto post via apps.

Respect your community
Finally respect your community by replying to their comments that they are providing, or any tweets or retweets. Your community wont judge you for your quality as they anyway like your thoughts but as a blogger you should show that extra love and respect for their effort. So appreciating and respecting thoughts and presence of your community will drive them back to the same old way that they abandoned.

Do you have any more suggestions for Vinaya to regroup a lost community?
