OnePlus One Chinese Mobile Firm Enter India On Dec 2

OnePlus One Chinese Mobile Firm Enter India On Dec 2

OnePlus One, one of the most eagerly anticipated phones of this year, will become available in India from December 2 exclusively on Amazon.in. This is the first time the Chinese startup has tied up with a local partner to see the hugely popular phone. There is no word on the pricing yet, but we believe the company might go for a really aggressive price point given that the competition is really tough in the mid-range in India. Though the pricing is yet to be divulged, the handset would be priced aggressively in the mid-range, between Rs 15,000-25,000.

The company has also put in place a local team, led by OnePlus India General Manager Vikas Agarwal. India is the first country outside of its headquarters to have a physical presence.

"Our company focuses first on our users and our product. We want to provide the best possible experience for our Indian users who have been so supportive of our vision," OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said. To do that, OnePlus is investing heavily in Indian operations and partnering e-commerce company, Amazon.in, he added.

As we had reported earlier, buying a OnePlus One phone wont be an easy task. The company has introduced India specific invite system. Users interested in purchasing an unit will need to apply for an invite which will enable them to purchase on December 2nd. Starting today, interested users can log onto Amazon.in page or oneplus.net/in and register their interest for an invite. Those whore lucky enough to get an invite will be able to make the purchase from Amazon.in on December 2.

Its a contest based invite system which will entitle you to win one of the 1000 invites which will go out before December 2. The catch here is OnePlus hasnt yet announced the pricing details, but we expect it to be priced less than Rs.25,000 for the 64GB version. Thats right, we expect to see only the 64GB model to start with just as Carl Pei had indicated to us few months back. [Update: More proof. Amazon page mentions only about Sandstone Black]

OnePlus One has garnered tremendous response across 16 markets where it is available and from here on, India becomes their market no. 17 and possibly, the most challenging one since their origination. The company has already placed itself into the good books of consumers in the country, by allowing any OnePlus One bought from other market, to get full warranty support over here.

Ive mentioned it a few times now, but the OnePlus Ones 5.5-inch display really is quite the specimen. At 5.5-inches its bigger than both the One M8s and Galaxy S5s, though it has the same 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. Admittedly that makes it a little less pixel-dense, but with 401ppi I defy anyone to call it anything but sharp.

If youre thinking that OnePlus may have cut corners with the quality of this display, then think again. Its an IPS display, which means its sharp and accurate even when viewed from an angle, and its made by JDI, the company responsible for the One M8s excellent screen. The default brightness seems a little weak, but crank it up and youll get a picture that truly pops, with impressively deep blacks. Perhaps the best illustration of this is to boot up the gorgeous Badlands game with its inky-black silhouettes layered over detailed amber backgrounds.

Around the back of the OnePlus One is the vaguely oblong black camera element that houses the lens and dual-LED flash. This has been allowed to jut out slightly, its flat surface peeking above the curved shell. I quite liked the effect, especially in concert with the funky OnePlus One logo situated below.

OnePlus One is highly expected to be priced at under Rs 20K for the 16 GB model and under Rs 25K for the larger 64 GB option. The company has not shared the pricing details and this will be announced at the launch event itself.
